Jan Levine: New York should sign Jaromir Jagr to a one-year deal The need exists and match between two would seem to be ideal

the wingers currently on this team:
Nash, Zucc, Kreider, Vesey, Buch, Grabner, Miller, Fast.. with Fast hurt for about a month - I would rather an AHL call up than sign a 40+ year old Jagr who once Fast is health will probably take Buch's minutes.

We dont need wingers. we need centers. I dont see us obtaining either. I think this year is exactly what Gorts said it was - a retooling year. which means we are competitive but still have holes. holes that we drafted 2 young very talented guys to potentially fill this or next year.

ya know nothing is happening when u see the ...lets sign the ole fart " article ...
what a reach , could just see A V dealing with 40 yr old diva or ex diva .....
very different summer with so many teams with unsettled RFA's or guys waiting to
sign... lineups incomplete ...like ours....
its like everyone is wiating to see .."who blinks 1st loses".....
this may play out till camp starts ....no one is showing much either....
like desperation to build up or re build or tweak or ... something other than the pretense as if ...were ready to start the season right now if we had to.....

Who is your AHL call up? Paul Carey? Cole Schneider? If Hrivik or Jensen were still around, this wouldn't be as big of a concern. Each are gone. Maybe Boo Nieves breaks camp, but if he does, that means Andersson likely doesn't, as Nieves isn't a wing.

Kovacs, Tambellini, Gropp, Boo, Gettinger, etc.

There are a few young guys they can afford to give a shot for 1 month. Unless you agree to sign Jagr for a 1 month contract I want nothing to do with him. I want Buch to play as many games possible this year, we all know if AV has another option, Buch will not play.

Also, in all reality, i would rather them sign Jimmy Hayes than Jagr. At least Hayes would bring a dimension we could use.

Both Hayes brothers on same team? MSG might turn on its axis

Nieves is the most ready of that group. But understand your view

maybe Jagr wouldn't be willing to sign for 1 million plus bonuses

we do have to consider that fact

Clearly possible. Meant to include in the blog that many of the unsigned players may decide they would prefer play in the Olympics rather than play in the NHL at a veteran minimum contract.

did anyone ever try reading the Canterbury Tales when they were in school?

I feel just like I did back then when I read Dundee's posts

obviously no way we can do anything more than a guaranteed 1 million dollar deal

Jagr has never been a guy who liked playing for free, he likes his $$$

He still deserves to get paid but like you said it has to be bonus heavy.

I do think he'd want 3-4 million guaranteed to play again or he'll go to Europe

At this point, unless he's a $$ loony, I'm guessing he would like to play his last game in the Garden - and not in the wilderness...
